« L’Association des Patients Immunodéficients du Québec » (APIQ) is a non-profit organisation representing patients with immune deficits namely; immunodeficient patients (PID) and Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) patients, their families and health professionals interested in these rare diseases.
Our PID association was formed in 2004 due to the vision and devotion of the founding directors to create a regional chapter of the Canadian Immunodeficiencies patient organization that addresses the needs of patients in Québec. The original members were all volunteers whom wanted to make a difference in the lives of people with immune deficiencies. Their continued efforts and the desire to offer more services for not only the PID patient group but also the HAE patient group lead to APIQ being founded in 2012.
APIQ works with its scientific committee and other patient associations around the world to build awareness about immunodeficiency and hereditary angioedema and to advance early diagnosis and to defend patient interests
About the diseases
Immunodeficiency and Hereditary Angioedema are rare diseases which have in common a deficit of the immune system. In both cases the treatment is based on replacement therapy using plasma derived products.
